A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on Southern Europe: that the Germans expect a serious crisis if Allied troops penetrate west of Batignano as only raw untried troops are in that area, on June 20; that Kesselring orders a relentless campaign against the Italian guerrillas, with no measure considered too harsh, on June 19; of further German withdrawals on the main Italian Front, on June 19, involving the 15th, 29th and 90th Panzer Grenadier Divisions, the 278th and 334th Divisions, the 1st Parachute Corps and the 76th Corps; and that the Germans successfully evacuate Elba, on the night of June 19/20, with all evacuation vessels being bound for Leghorn.
