A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on Western Europe: that the Germans start to withdraw from the Cherbourg area overnight on June 19/20; that Allied forces advance south through the Cherbourg peninsula, on June 19; that the main German Air Force (GAF) effort on June 20 is to be across the southern part of the Cherbourg peninsula; battle reports from the Normandy front for June 19; reports from the 2nd Parachute Corps; the 17th SS Panzer Grenadier Division; the 91st and 243rd Infantry Divisions; and the 84th Corps; battle reports from the Tilly area for June 18/19, by the 1st SS Panzer Corps and the 81st Corps, noting that Allied artillery superiority stops some German attacks; that Cherbourg is under artillery fire from the land front for the first time on June 19; that the 716th Division is to be withdrawn from the Caen area and transferred to the 1st Army's area at Bordeaux, on June 19; and item T220/125 was sent to the Director of Military Intelligence (DMI) under reference 6845 (6845 is not included in this series).
