This file includes the following reports on West Europe: a report from the 7th Army of enemy gains, on June 13; that a German Air Force (GAF) fighter unit is down to 16 aircraft with 7 of these being serviceable, on June 12; that Jodl orders that personnel combed out from the Commander in Chief (C-in-C) West's sphere of command are to be used for strengthening the coastal front, on June 6; that in the Carentan area the Germans on the River Douve were thrown back, with a counter-attack impossible because of forces' slowness in moving up, on June 13; and that GAF columns not required in the north of the Cherbourg Peninsula are to be withdrawn, on June 13; and from the Japanese ambassador in Berlin, passing on an optimistic German view of the Normandy landings, saying that Germany is to finish the enemy off at a blow after allowing as many as possible to land, on June 11.
