This file includes the following reports on France: that the 7th Army request support from the 3rd Air Fleet against an Allied break through north west of Cherbourg, on June 10; a situation report from the 7th Army for June 9, noting increased Allied pressure in Calvados on Norrey, Bronay and Ducy, that the line as far as Ducy is being held by Panzer Division Lehr, that west of Bayeux there is strong tank pressure south of Vaucelles, that Isigny is to be held at all costs, and that there is continuing Allied pressure to the north west in Cotentin; that German Air Force (GAF) intervention is urgently required to prevent an Allied naval bombardment of hard-pressed troops between Monteberg and Marcouf, on June 9; that soldiers in the garrison at Marcouf sent from Germany were soft and had to be forced into action, on June 8; of shortages of flak ammunition in Brittany, of problems with its transport, and that supplies and operational service ability are endangered, on June 8; that the Ground Officer Commanding (GOC) the 346th Infantry Division is in command of all elements between Dives and Orne, as of June 8; of the 1st SS Panzer Corps' Battle HQ being set up south of Tourville, and that subordinations to the corps include the 711st Infantry Division, and the 21st and 12th SS Panzer Divisions, on June 10; that the Allied bridgehead north of Carentan is estimated to be eight divisions; that a counter-attack reduced the line to St Marcouf-Fresville-St Mere Eglise-St Come du Mont-Brevands-Isle St Marcouf; the 2nd Air Corps' situation report for June 8; that Hitler orders the cessation of relinquishing personnel from the sphere of command of the Commander in Chief (CinC) for the South West, and that all construction work in the area of fighting is to be adapted for defence, on June 8; and a situation report for the morning of June 9, stating that the Allies are occupying Bayeux, giving the German line, detailing much sabotage activity, and that a large-scale attack by several Panzer Divisions is developing round Caen.
