Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on France: a situation report from the 2nd Air Corps for June 8, noting Allied tanks were sighted at Escoville, no sightings at St Samson, that the 21st Panzer Division and the 12th SS Panzer Division are to continue their attack, glider incursions on the Lorient area, parachutists north east of Nantes, and Allied air raids in the areas of Paris and Argenteuil; that the German naval authorities at Brittany and Brest were ordered to extend their preparations for total destruction, on June 8; of preparations for the destruction of Granville harbour being hindered by Allied air raids, on June 8; a situation report from Cherbourg for June 8, detailing a concentration of ships off the east Cotentin coast, the Marcouf battery being surrounded, that an attempt to dislodge the Allies is in progress, that preparations for a landing in the Quineville area have been noted, and the main defence line north east of Marcouf-Edmodville-Magneville; that transport space is urgently needed for the 3rd Parachute Division, on June 8; Allied forces are reported to be moving in strength towards Valognes; that Joganville is occupied; of an urgent request for air strikes against Allied naval vessels off the east coast, and in support of ground operations; of a heavy air raid on Granville harbour; that Marcouf is in German hands; and on a tank battle near Bayeux, on June 8; and the 13th Flak Division reports Allied landings at Dives sur Mer, that large numbers of paratroops landed in the Coutances area, and that German counter measures began with air attacks on shipping concentrations and unloading operations, on June 8.
