Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on Southern Europe: that the 26th Panzer Division withdraws while resisting Allied penetration, on June 2; of the 90th Panzer Grenadier Division moving on June 2 to counteract a possible Allied breakthrough; an account by the Hermann Goering Division of its battle on June 1 in the Alban Hills - Valmontone area when facing 2 Allied divisions, describing heavy losses on both sides; that the 3rd Panzer Grenadier Division is to withdraw to the Lake Nemi area overnight on June 2/3; that the 26th Panzer Division occupies the sector between Anagni and Ferentino, on June 2; that the 44th Infantry, 5th Mountain and 114th Jaeger Divisions are to be designated as 'blocking groups' as the divisions of the 51st Mountain Corps had become exhausted and had given up many units to support the battle in the 14th Corps' area; that elements of the 16th SS Panzer Division (from Hungary), the 20th German Air Force (GAF) Field Division (from Denmark) and the 42nd Jaeger Division (from Croatia in Yugoslavia), all arrive in northern Italy on May 30 - the report goes on to list other German movements within Italy and give details on the state of the railways in Italy in the face of countless Allied air attacks; that the 20th GAF Field Division, en route from Denmark, is to replace the 92nd Division in the Civita Vecchia - Orbetello area, from June 2; that the 42nd Jaeger Division, just arrived from Croatia, replaces the 356th Division in the Genoa area, from June 2; and of detailed results of an Allied air attack against a German naval convoy en route from Piraeus to Crete, on June 1.
