A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on Southern Europe: more battle reports from the Italian Front, covering the 90th Panzer Grenadier Division and the 26th Panzer Division withdrawing; that the 3rd Panzer Grenadier Division and the 65th Division were subjected to severe Allied attacks, on May 29; of the 334th Division being inserted into the area of the 3rd Panzer Grenadier Division, possibly as a replacement, on May 30; of the Commander in Chief (C-in-C) for the South-west's ration strength as at May 25 totalling some 995,000 men and some 77,000 horses; the C-in-C for the South-west evaluates the role of the Italian civilian population as at May 26 in major battles since May 12, stating that the Allies had received great assistance to the detriment of German operations; that the C-in-C for the South-west asks Berlin to issue small arms on posting to replacements earmarked for the 1st and 4th Parachute Divisions as recent losses meant that there were no suitable weapons available in the divisions; a very detailed assessment by the Ground Officer Commanding (GOC) the 14th Army of the forces under his command as at May 27, noting that he was dissatisfied with the 94th, 362nd and 715th Divisions which had all been severely mauled by the Allies in recent days; and that the C-in-C for the South-west attempts to explain recent successes by the Allies against his forces, on May 29, stating that the U.K., U.S. and French forces were now using Russian tactics, and he concludes with a list of measures to reverse the situation.
