This file includes the following reports on Southern Europe: that on the Italian Front the main fighting is now in the vicinity of the Albar Hills; a German Air Force (GAF) summary for May 28, counting some 1,500 Allied sorties over Italy and only 71 GAF sorties in reply; a GAF in Italy report for May 27, counting some 2,000 Allied sorties and only 97 GAF sorties in reply; of the front line positions for the Hermann Goering Division, as of May 28; that the 278th Division, previously in the Adriatic sector, takes over the front line sector of the 334th Division, from May 28; a final GAF Italy report for May 27; that the 26th Panzer Division is to hold its present defence line from May 28 until the night of May 29/30; that the 305th Division moves to a new area of the front, and is now located between the 94th and 15th Panzer Grenadier Divisions, on May 28; of the results of Allied air attacks against targets in Italy, on May 25; and of the results of an Allied air raid against the port and dockyard at Monfalcone, on May 25; on Western Europe: that the Commander in Chief (C-in-C) West orders that men capable of fighting on the front do not collect behind the front but fill in to compensate for losses there, from May 16, and that the German forces must hold the enemy at the shore; of the results of Allied air raids on 3 airfields in southern France, on May 27; GAF aircraft and pilot returns for a fighter unit based in south-west Germany, stating that 6 fighters are still missing after reacting to an Allied raid on May 27; and of reported landings of Allied parachutists on the Riviera coast on May 26, with German units in the area to go to an increased readiness state; and on Southern Europe: of German naval movements in the seas around Italy, on May 27/28.
