Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on Southern Europe: of German plans to attack Tito's HQ at Uvala in Yugoslavia; on Western Europe: that as part of the reinforcement of Normandy, a detailed order of battle was given on May 13 for units of the 84th Corps in the Cherbourg peninsula, comprising the 243rd and 709th Divisions, the 91st Air Landing Division and the 6th Parachute Regiment; of the 3rd Air Fleet's assessment of Allied strategy in air attacks against targets in France as at May 27, being to prevent supplies and reinforcements reaching the Italian Front from southern France and preparations for a probable second front to be centred on the Dieppe and Seine Bay areas; on Southern Europe: that the 362nd Division withdraws to a position alongside the Hermann Goering Division, east of Velletri and facing the direction of the Allied thrust from the beachhead, on May 27; battle reports from the Italian Front for May 27; of the Hermann Goering Division being inserted between the 362nd Division and the 29th Panzer Grenadier Division; that the 94th Division has been resubordinated to the 14th Corps; of the 26th Panzer Division withdrawing to the north-west of Ceprano, on May 27; that the 15th Panzer Grenadier Division is to withdraw during the night of May 27/28; of the 5th Mountain Division withdrawing overnight on May 27/28 to a position north of Aquino; that the 15th Panzer Grenadier Division holds up the Allied advance, on May 27; and a report on German Air Force (GAF) operations over Italy on May 26; on Western Europe: of the results of Allied air attacks against targets in France and Belgium on May 21/22; of a general strike in Marseilles on May 27, noting that terrorists are in readiness throughout France, and that German security is to be intensified; and on the effects of the French strike on German naval operations in France, as at May 26; and on Southern Europe: of developments in the Aegean Islands, as of May 28.
