Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file contains a message from C to the Prime Minister (PM); and the following reports on Italy: battle reports of the 51st Mountain Corps; 5th Mountain Division; 114th Jaeger Division; 94th Infantry Division; 1st Parachute Division; 26th Panzer Division; and 90th Panzer Grenadier Division, for May 19; of the 3rd Panzer Grenadier Division anticipating a large-scale Allied attack in the Cisterna-Littoria area involving mainly U.S. forces, on May 19; of the defence line of the main body of the 94th Division, on May 19; of a slight withdrawal of the 44th Division near Campodimele, and its boundaries with the 94th Division; and that the Battle HQ of the 90th Panzer Grenadier Division is at Monte Picolo, on May 19; that the Hermann Goering Panzer Division requests the attachment of an Air Liaison Officer as a matter of urgency, on May 19; and of shipping being damaged in an air raid on Spezia, on May 19; on Eastern Europe: a report from the Naval Liaison Officer with Army H Group South for May 18, noting heavy fighting in Bessarabia; Naval Headlines, covering U-boats in the Dragoner Group being fitted with a device enabling the recharging of batteries while submerged; German Naval authorities being warned of the possible use by invading Allied forces of powerful and long-range flame projectors; Abwehr reports that indicate an Allied landing between Genoa and Nice is planned for some time after May 25; that the mopping up of Krk was begun by police troops, on May 18; that the Peloponnese has been declared a battle zone, with all civilian shipping and fishing prohibited; that the Japanese battleship Fuso and units of the 1st Mobile Fleet have been organised into a Mobile Force to protect sea communications, which is to concentrate in the central-southern area of the Philippines by May 10; that the 6th Japanese Submarine Fleet is to patrol the Marshall Islands area and the area between Mussau and Wewak and to supply Japanese bases in the Marshalls; that a Japanese light cruiser, possibly the Noshiro, was hit by torpedoes off Davao; and that a Japanese convoy including the seaplane carrier Akitsushima is due to arrive in Palao on May 19; on Germany: an analysis of morale and the internal situation there, as of May 18; from the Japanese ambassador in Ankara, forwarding the Turkish Foreign Minister's comments on prospects for a Second Front, on May 17; the French minister in Bucharest comments on the Soviet forces' pause in the south east, on May 16; and from the Turkish military attaché in Budapest, reporting Hungarian aircraft losses of 50% in air battles over Hungary, on May 17.
