Description

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on South Europe: of a German shortage of field howitzers in Italy, on April 24; and on the possible move of the 51st Mountain Corps to Sora, north west of Cassino, on April 24; on South-east Europe: of a German ban on economic traffic to Bulgaria, Serbia, Albania, Turkey and Greece, on April 18; that the Germans order a renewed check of the defences of the Aegean islands against Allied commando attacks, on April 26; and that the Ground Officer Commanding (GOC) the 22nd Infantry Division disappears, and is believed to have been kidnapped by guerillas on Crete, on April 27; on the Southern Russian Front: that the 42nd Army Corps is to re-group for a new attack, on April 27; and of the Soviets reinforcing and attacking in Targul Neamt, in the Roumania area, on April 24; Naval Headlines, covering that the Germans are to send 15 U-boats to the Far East, on March 14; on Germany: a German Air Ministry directive on preparations for bringing the ME163 into service, on April 18, with a request from the Prime Minister (PM) for comments; a comment from Lord Cherwell on the characteristics of this jet-propelled fighter; and a comment from the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) on the possibility of attacking related factories.
