Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file contains a message from C to the Prime Minister (PM); and the following reports on Italy: a report from Army A Group von Zangen for March 23 for the area north of Trieste, Florence, Ancona, Bologna, and Padua, noting damage being caused by guerrillas and Allied air raids, and giving an estimate of the guerrilla losses incurred in the Valcasto undertaking; on South-east Europe: of an attack by an Allied submarine on shipping on Monemvasia harbour on March 28; and of a directive from the 2nd Air Fleet on flying discipline in the German Air Force (GAF), on March 26; on Eastern Europe: the German Naval Liaison Staff in Romania report a Romanian order for the evacuation of Galats, with the Germans attempting to retain control of the dock which is essential for their U-boat base, on March 28; a 4th Air Fleet summary of reconnaissance reports for March 23, describing Soviet forces approaching the old, pre-war, Czechoslovak frontier; Naval Headlines, covering a communications exercise simulating an Allied invasion being held in the La Pallice area; that a decrease in the supply shipping available in the Black Sea is feared as a result of Romanian restrictions on lighter usage; that Army H Group A consider the thinning out of Odessa at a greater rate is necessary; that a new Romanian submarine Rechinul is ready for operations in the Black Sea; and that the Japanese aircraft carrier Hayataka is carrying the flag of the 2nd Carrier Squadron with effect from March 16 following the completion of its repairs in Japan on February 27; from the Japanese ambassador in Berlin, sending his weekly report of March 16 covering the war situation on the Russian and Italian fronts, German claims of Allied shipping tonnages sunk in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, Allied air raids on Berlin, Rome, Turin, Munster, Northern Italy and Southern France with German claims of the aircraft shot down, comments on peace negotiations between Finland and the Soviet Union, the severed relations between the U.S. and Argentina, and comments on Britain's Near-East policy; and of a heavy Allied air raid on Berlin, with German claims of over 100 Allied aircraft being shot down, on March 25; and the Saudi chargé in London, following air raids on London, requests financial assistance in moving his family to safety in Scotland, on March 23; and gives a report of an air raid on London and South-East England, on March 25.
