Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file contains a message from C to the Prime Minister (PM); and the following reports on Southern Europe: an assessment of the condition of the 10th Army, noting the state of the training of drafts is inadequate, that morale is good, a low standard of motorised mobility, and that supplying is hampered by the dislocation of railways by Allied air attacks, on March 18; on South-eastern Europe: a report from Battle Group Ruf for March 21 on an undertaking on Nisiro to establish signals communications and to wipe out any commandos, to begin on March 21-22; and of the occupation of part of Hungary by an unspecified German Corps, on March 23; on Eastern Europe: a situation report for Crimea from the Admiral for the Black Sea for March 22, describing activity on the Perekop Front, and some Soviet penetrations on the Kerch Front; on Italy: an assessment from the Commander in Chief (CinC) for the South West on Allied technique in the employment of landing craft in operations against Salerno and Anzio, on March 20; Naval Headlines, covering that the Germans are preparing to cut the Kerch Strait cable railway; that demolitions are in progress at Nikolaev; that 150 wounded are being ferried in Naval barges from Odessa to Galats daily; that the Japanese aircraft carrier Taiho is en route to Singapore; that the aircraft carrier Chiyoda is due to arrive in Palao from Balikpapan on March 25; that the aviation store ship Kiyokawa Maru is en route to Balikpapan from Palao; and that a large number of mines are being used for the defence of Palao; and from the Portuguese minister in Ankara, on German military measures in Hungary and Romania, on March 21.
