Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on Southern Europe: a German Air Force (GAF) general intelligence summary for March 16, with high appreciation content, highlighting an RAF bombing raid against Sofia on the night of March 15/16 which it assesses was for political purposes and included leaflet dropping urging the population to rise against the Zankoff government; and a more detailed GAF summary for south-eastern Europe for March 16; on the Russian Front: that GAF reconnaissance reveals Russian forces are massing north-west of Nikolaev, on March 16; Naval Headlines; from the Spanish minister in Helsinki, an assessment of likely developments in the current Soviet/Finnish peace negotiations, and that he considers Finland will reject the Soviet proposals, on March 14; and from the Japanese ambassador in Vichy, a summary dated March 1 of feelings in France about the progress of the war, with the German forces of occupation being in favour of a negotiated peace with Britain, and the French against, as France and her colonies would be sacrificed as part of a peace agreement; he then goes on to discuss the Soviet problem.
