Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on Southern Europe: that attacks by the 715th Division in the area from Cisterna as far as the Mussolini canal in the main were unsuccessful, on February 29; that four battalions of the 114th Division had been merged into two owing to severe losses; on the failure of an attack by the 715th Division, on February 22; of the 2nd Air Fleet's intentions for March 1 and 2 to continue its bombing on shipping off Anzio and on unloading and landing points; and of an unspecified steamship being torpedoed and sunk near Toulon on February 29; on South-east Europe: that the further transfer of shipping from the Adriatic to the Aegean is contemplated, despite the recent sinking of a steamship, on March 1; and that an investigation is to be carried out in view of the sinking of the steamship, on February 29 to March 1; and on Western Europe: of a further reference to the economising of personnel in the German Air Force (GAF), on February 29.
