Description

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on South Europe: that the 65th Infantry Division is to attack, on the morning of February 22; that the 1st Parachute Corps expects a counter-attack by the enemy, on February 22; and that the 76th Panzer Corps gains some ground, with its front line reported, on February 22; on South-east Europe: that the 1st Mountain Division is to move to the Skoplje area, on February 9; and a German Air Force (GAF) Southeast sea situation report, on February 22; on Germany: an appreciation of Allied air warfare and future strategy in West Europe and the Mediterranean, on February 21; Naval Headlines; from the Spanish ambassador in Washington, with the Minister for Foreign Affairs in Madrid, on Spanish-U.S. negotiations, and pressure to cease the supply of wolfram to Germany, on February 16-17; and on Spain: on the political crisis in Spain, as of February 14.
