This file includes the following reports on Southern Europe: that the Germans suffered heavy losses on February 12 and abandoned their gains in the Cassino sector; of the results of an Allied air raid on Sestri Levante, on February 12; and of an upgrade of the air defences in the Sofia area, on February 13; on the Russian Front: that elements of 4 Russian divisions cross the Dnieper north of Crimea, on February 12, with elements of the 8th Army encircled; on Germany: that a German Air Force (GAF) fighter unit loses 12 aircraft and achieves only 2 victories when reacting to an Allied air raid on January 30; and from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Berlin, a relay to all embassies on February 10 of a report from the German ambassador in Madrid on his talks with the Spanish Foreign Minister on February 7, describing Spanish sympathy with the German cause in the face of pressure from the U.K. and the U.S.
