A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on Southern Europe: of a message from Berlin via German Air Force (GAF) South-east Command to the GAF in Albania on February 11 quoting a Hitler directive that if Polish units were encountered on any front, a propaganda programme was to be carried out promising any deserters an unconditional return to their homes in Poland; and of the importance to the German war effort of cargoes of manganese ore from San Stefano, on the west coast of Italy, on February 10/11. The following additional items were in Mr Loxley's copy of the summary for February 13: on Southern Europe: on the status of the fighting on the main Italian Front and the Anzio bridgehead, as at February 12; on the Russian Front: that Berlin is concerned over the possibility of the Russians crossing the Dnieper south of Nikolaev; from the Japanese ambassador in Berlin: a detailed report on the ambassador's talks on January 22, first with Ribbentrop and then with Hitler, on how Germany viewed her past and future strategy in the war, how she explained away the Allied successes to date, how she was betrayed by Italy, the attitude of the neutral countries, the impending V-weapons' attacks on the U.K., the expected 2nd Front in Europe and a detailed breakdown of the strength of the German forces on all fronts; and a minute from the Prime Minister (PM) to C with a reply and an MI-14 paper on German divisions.
