Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following message: a covering note dated February 12 from C to the Prime Minister (PM) covering replies from the Chief of the Imperial General Staff (CIGS) on the PM's questions. This file also includes the following reports on Southern Europe: a German Air Force (GAF) report for southern Italy for February 9; that the 14th Army captured Aprilia in the Allied bridgehead area on February 9; of 500 prisoners being captured and German Sigint indicated that the Allied artillery had run short of ammunition; of the 10th Army's operations in the Cassino area on February 9; that the Allies had employed twin-engined bombers over the bridgehead area for the first time; and that poor weather conditions had hampered the Allied unloading at Anzio and Nettuno and prevented GAF ground attack operations; of the 10th Army's operations in the Cassino area, on February 9; and a query from the PM to the CIGS with a reply; on Southern Europe: a German status report for operations in Italy as at February 3, noting the failure of an attempt to cut off Allied forces north of Aprilia; that a new Panzer unit entered Italy via the Brenner Pass on February 3; that elements of an army unit left Fiume probably en route to the front; on the status of Allied shipping movements in the Mediterranean and off the Anzio beachhead; a detailed 14th Army casualty report for the period of January 20-31 for 7 German divisions plus the 162nd Turkish Infantry Division of Von Zangen's Army Group which included both Germans and Turkish legionaries - the total German casualties in the period were 2185; and a query from the PM on the actual casualty figures with the CIGS's reply.
