A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on the Russian Front: that elements of an SS division last located in Russia in early January had returned to Germany by February 5; on Southern Europe: a very detailed report of February 1 on movements of German Army reinforcements to the south Italian Front, containing details of at least 12 different units; a situation report of January 31 from the Commander in Chief (C-in-C) for the South-west, including that most of the 114th Division had now arrived in the Fiume area from Yugoslavia; an actual strength return for the 278th Division; and that German Air Force (GAF) reconnaissance reports indicated that because of the large number of Allied landing craft being used at the Nettuno/Anzio bridgehead, it would not be possible for the Allies to launch another similar undertaking at this time; Naval Headlines, which includes 4 items from U-boat communications; also a report of a German anti-invasion exercise in the Bay of Biscay area between February 10 and 12; and that Allied shipping off the Nettuno/Anzio bridgehead is to be closely watched by U-boats and shore observers as an input to special operations planned by the German Naval Command in Italy.
