Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports: BONIFACE summaries for the Deputy Prime Minister (PM), Mr Loxley and General Ismay, the latter being for the PM on his return from abroad; on Southern Europe: progress reports from the German 114th Division en route from Yugoslavia to Italy on January 13/14, it being forced to take a new route after being delayed by partisan activity; of the results of an Allied air raid on Sibenik harbour, on January 13/14; of the results of Allied air raids on airfields at Mostar, on January 14; of the possibility of employing German Air Force (GAF) ME-109 fighters to defend Sofia against Allied bomber attacks on moonlit nights; of a GAF request to a fighter unit for its views on employing ME-109 fighters for the night protection of Sofia once pilots had been thoroughly trained; extracts from a GAF in Berlin intelligence summary with a large appreciation content selected for the GAF in Albania; details of Allied air raids over Germany, France and the Mediterranean area from January 9-11; that Allied raids on Sofia are considered to be intended to influence the attitude of the civilian population; that the Allies appeared to be desperate to cut German aircraft production by attacking factories beyond the range of their own escorting fighters; and that there is no evidence for imminent Allied landing operations in the eastern Mediterranean.
