A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports: BONIFACE summaries for the Deputy Prime Minister (PM) and Mr Loxley; and also a SLICK copy to be sent to the PM who is abroad; on Southern Europe: of the Germans being forced to bring in 2 battalions of the Hermann Goering Division to block an Allied penetration on January 12 in northern Italy; of the Germans attaching importance to the occupation of the Vis and Lagosta Islands, as this will prevent supplies coming from Italy by sea and support the struggle against the partisans in Yugoslavia; and that the situation in the Pola dockyard has become extremely critical and now only a limited number of U-boats can be received owing to an air attack on January 9; on Norway: that an ammunition ship exploded in Oslo harbour on January 11 and was completely destroyed; and on the Russian Front; of the situation being extremely strained in eastern Crimea with the last German reserves now committed to the battle and the Germans unable to eliminate the Russian bridgehead in the northern part of the peninsula.
