This file includes the following reports: a BONIFACE report for the Deputy Prime Minister (PM); a BONIFACE report for Mr Loxley; a BONIFACE report from the Code and Cypher School (CSS) to the PM via Hut 3; on Southern Europe: that a change in the Allied situation has permitted cargo and tank lighters to sail without an escort along the west coast of Italy, on December 25; of the fuel supply in the Adriatic being hampered by a breakdown in tankers and tugs, with sabotage and desertion by crews increasing, on December 24; and of the results of an Allied raid on Pisa, on December 25; from the Japanese minister in Madrid, describing the morale of the Germans in the face of Berlin being bombed and that Ribbentrop had reported that close contact would be maintained with the Japanese, on December 21; and from the Japanese ambassador in Berlin, noting a German appeal not to provoke war with Portugal, on December 21.
