A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on Southern Europe: that Operation PENITENT 2 is to start on December 22; that the Audace and Missori are ready to operate, and the Najade was ordered to join a big ship formation; a Unit Schumacher report of increasing tension in the guerrilla situation, that communications with Tripolis and Sparta have been severed, that there is intermittent telephone communication only, that units and local banks are in financial difficulty, and that no funds are available to buy fresh food on December 20; of an order from the General Staff of the Army for all fit men of 1014 class and younger to be withdrawn from non-fighting commands, HQs and units without replacement for training and posting to front line units, on December 19; of an Allied motor boat being captured south of the island of Lussino, on November 11; and of an exhortation from Goering to all members of the German Air Force (GAF) on the behaviour expected of them should they become prisoners of war, on December 22.
