Description

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports: BONIFACE summaries for the Deputy Prime Minister (PM), Brigadier Jacob and Mr Loxley; DTG 030944Z, sent from C to the PM in Cairo; on the Russian Front: of a new Russian division in a landing bridgehead at Baksi, north of Kerch in Crimea, on December 2; on Southern Europe: of the 14th Panzer Corps being greatly pressed by Allied forces during the early hours of December 3; of the 26th Panzer Division withdrawing to its winter defence line, on December 2; that the Cruiser Niobe is to be ready again for sea by December 2 after a dispute between the German Army and Navy over lack of naval support for army operations against the Dalmatian Islands; that the Germans are to land on Solta at dawn on December 4; of the results of an Allied air raid on Turin on December 1, resulting in damage to the Fiat works and to Albenga airfield; a German Air Force (GAF) detailed situation report for operations over Italy on December 1; that rebels occupy Murello airfield, some 40 miles south of Turin, and destroy or damage some 30 Italian aircraft, on November 30; that the 2nd Panzer Army proposed an order of cleaning up 6 islands off the Dalmatian coast, following the proposed operation against Solta on December 4; and giving the details of escaped British officers, on December 1.
