Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports: a BONIFACE report for the Deputy Prime Minister (PM); a BONIFACE report for Mr Loxley; a BONIFACE report for Brigadier Jacob; the PM sent a signal in Cairo on an intelligence report indicating Axis preparations for the capture of Samos, on November 19; on South-east Europe: of preparations being made for operation SANDWICH, the capture of Samos, on November 19; of the Admiral for the Aegean detailing preparations for operation SANDWICH, on November 20; of a landing craft and patrol vessel being beached after an engagement with a British destroyer, off the islands in the Adriatic on November 19; that the Italian Ground Officer Commanding (GOC) the Cuneo Division, on Samos, is rumoured to be ready to negotiate with the Germans, on November 20; of the Germans attempting unsuccessfully to negotiate with the defenders of Samos, with a landing formation to set sail from November 22, reported on November 21; of Mueller's plans for taking Samos on November 24, at the earliest possible date, reported on November 20; and that the Germans consider that the Allied loss of Leros might prompt the English to restore their prestige in the Mediterranean by carrying out commando operations, on November 19 and 20; on Southern Europe: a battle report from the 15th Panzer Grenadier Division, on November 19; that Goering orders that the 4th Parachute Division is to be set up in the Rome area, on November 20; that Kesselring defines the Commander in Chief (C-in-C) for the South-west's and the C-in-C for the South-east's areas of responsibility in detail, on November 11; that the minister of Armament and war production orders the despatch of a 12 metre bending roll from Leghorn to a firm in Gruenberg, in Silesia, on November 10; that Goering has set up an assault squadron in the German Air Force (GAF) to break up U.S. bomber formations, on November 20; and amendments to SUNSET reports, for November 23.
