Description

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on Southern Europe: that the 3rd Panzer Grenadier Division provides targets for air attacks, on November 8; a 16th Panzer Division situation report, for November 8; and that a shortage of tractors in southern Italy is considered to have had a marked adverse effect on operations, on October 30; on the Russian Front: of fighting in the Perekop isthmus, on November 7; and of German concerns over a plant in Nikolaev, on November 6; a German secret service report on the air attack on the Vatican City, on November 7; Naval Headlines; DiploFrance in Algiers reports the French National Committee's distrust of Allied intentions, on October 30; and from the Japanese ambassador in Ankara, giving the views of von Papen on Allied pressure on Turkey, on November 4.
