Description

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on South-east Europe: of an urgent request from the German Air Force (GAF) in the Southeast for equipment for a parachute operation, on October 24; a 1st SS Panzer Army report on operations in Yugoslavia, on October 23; from the 1st SS Panzer Division reporting on operations in Ljubljana Province, on October 23; and of GAF changes in the conduct of their operations by reason of the appearance of enemy fighters, on October 23; on South Europe: German reports, mainly the 16th Panzer Division's, on the current fighting, for October 23; a German 1st Parachute Division report, on October 23; of the 29th Panzer Division's anxiety concerning an airship, on October 23; 26th Panzer Division reports, for October 23; that the 3rd Panzer Grenadier Division is to move, on October 23; a report by the Hermann Goering Division, on October 23; that the Germans complete their demolitions at Fiumicino, on October 23; that Leghorn is no longer suitable for equipping anti-submarine vessels, from October 23-24; that the German 65th Division is to have a third grenadier regiment, from October 23; that the German Navy are to lay mines off the Italian west coast, on October 24; of an order for propaganda about GAF successes against Allied shipping, on October 22; and from the German Ministry of Armament and War Production on the authorities in Italy, on October 25; on West Europe: that the German Navy seeks confirmation that anti-aircraft guns will be supplied for new Siebel ferries, on October 23; and of a GAF warning that the Swiss Air Force has orders to react to intruder aircraft, on October 24; on the Southern Russian Front: of GAF operations, on October 24; and of the transfer of a GAF unit to Odessa, on October 24; 3421/T2 and 5 were sent to the Director of Military Intelligence (DMI) (see 4806).
