This file includes the following reports on Southern Europe: a situation report for October 8 from the 16th Panzer Division; a report from the 76th Panzer Corps, stating that the Teja line of resistance has been reached; that an Allied attack in the area of the 26th Panzer Division was repulsed; and the 15th Panzer Division's front line; a report from the 29th Panzer Grenadier Division for October 8, describing the extent of the front line; the 2nd Parachute Division in Isola Farnese reports finding an Italian aircraft supply depot, on October 8; the 14th Panzer Corps reports that Battle Group Moeller warded off two Allied attacks in battalion strength in the Volturno sector, on October 7; a 1st Parachute Division report of front line positions, as of October 8; of the dispositions of the Hermann Goering Infantry Division, on October 8; of the front line positions of the HQ of the 1st Parachute Division, the 15th Panzer Division, and the 29th Panzer Grenadier Division, on October 9; and that Army Group E was asked by Mueller for confirmation of the postponement of an operation until October 10 for technical naval reasons; on South-eastern Europe: a German Air Force (GAF) report of Allied air reconnaissances and raids on north Rhodes, the sea area east of Crete, the Melos area, the Gulf of Canea, from the west Aegean-Argos, and Eleusis on October 9; of the 1st Panzer Division transferring from the Peloponnese to Skopje after operations against guerrillas; and a tank situation return from the 1st SS Panzer Army for October 8; Naval Headlines, covering the Rossbach U-boat Group being ordered to operate against destroyers in the mid-Atlantic; that an Indian Ocean U-boat attributed its lack of success against a convoy in the Persian Gulf to its torpedoes mis-firing; that a U-boat off Mombassa that is not operationally effective requested passage to Penang for repairs; and that U-boats in the area north-east of the Azores were warned of the presence of an Allied aircraft carrier. This file also includes a message from De Gaulle to the French ambassador in London, regarding approaches to be made for the re-constitution and reorganisation of the French Committee for National Liberation, on September 28.
