Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on Southern Europe: of the Hermann Goering Division's intention to withdraw across the River Volturno by October 5; that the Germans claim the bridges over the Volturno are undamaged, as of October 4; a 76th Panzer Corps situation report and its intentions, for October 4; of attacks by the 16th Panzer Division probably in the Termoli area, on October 4; the 2nd Air Corps reports an Allied attack on Bolzano with slight effect, on October 4; that between September 15 and October 2, 2500 men were evacuated from Corsica by air; and further reports on the situation in Istria, as of October 3; on South-east Europe: a German Air Force (GAF) operations report gives details of the scale of the effort over Kos, on October 4; of ground operations on Kos during October 3; of Allied air attacks on Greece, on October 4; a Department of the Foreign Armies West review on the Mediterranean and the Balkans including violent resistance to a German advance in Slovenia, on October 3; on the Russian Front: that the GAF are to concentrate their effort in the Dnieper-Pripyat triangle in support of a counter-attack by the 2nd Army, at the cost of weakening the Orsha sector, on October 4; and that strong Russian defences at south-eastern Black Sea bases compel the GAF to use high-altitude aircraft for reconnaissance, on October 1; on Western Europe: of ships being damaged by an Allied air attack off Norway, on October 4; and SHARK, reporting success on October 1.
