Description

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on Southern Europe: twelve reports on ground operations in southern Italy including the general withdrawal of German units and an Allied landing at Termoli, on October 2 and 3; the German Air Force (GAF) in the South-east's detailed appreciation of the eastern Mediterranean and the reconnaissance situation, with the primary commitments analyzed and the reasons for their choice set forth, on September 24; German secret service reports covering Italian art treasures, on September 24; and that the GAF are transporting Italian art treasures, on October 3; Naval Headlines; from the Japanese ambassador in Vichy, on the possibilities of German-Allied negotiations, on October 1; and from the Portuguese ambassador to the Vatican, on the Italian situation, as of September 30.
