Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on Southern Europe: that Operation EBONY, the evacuation of Corsica, is to commence at 0400 hours on October 3; of arrangements for the final evacuation of Corsica, on October 2; of arrangements for the removal or destruction of war gases found in Italy, on September 30; an intelligence review for September 30 by the Commander in Chief (C-in-C) South which included that the Naples electricity works, telephone exchange and repeater station have been blown up; that German propaganda is to use Italy as an example of the disadvantages of an Allied victory when compared with the prospects of the German New Order, on September 30; that German Air Force (GAF) training crews are to be used for ferrying seized Italian seaplanes, from October 2; of limitations on the use of Italian aircraft by bomber units of Air Fleet II, on September 30; that Air Fleet II's orders for the night of October 2 and October 3 include that units KG100 and KG26 are to remain subordinated to Air Fleet III until further notice; of an attack on an Atlantic convoy being cancelled, on October 2; and that the GAF have transported works of art, on October 1; on the Russian Front: of German efforts to obtain increased deliveries of oil from Romania, on September 30; of orders for the immediate development by the GAF ground organisation of airfields at Odessa and nearby, on October 1; and a directive on implementing Goering's call for volunteers for parachute divisions, from September 28; on South-east Europe: that the Germans intend a short-term occupation of the Dalmatian islands, on September 28; and that the situation at Sibernik was obscure on September 28, with the port not apparently being accessible to the Germans; and from the Chinese chargé in Berne, describing the German retreat in Russia, on September 29.
