Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on Southern Europe: of Naples being evacuated by September 30 according to the German Air Force (GAF), on September 30; of the Goering Division's intentions for September 30; of the intended withdrawal of the 29th Panzer Division to Benevento, on September 30; a naval and military review covering the west Mediterranean, Italy and the Adriatic, on September 28; a report that 406 serviceable aircraft were secured by the German Navy at Pola, on September 29; that Berlin considers that the present transport situation permits the despatch of 20,000 tons of coal for the GAF in Italy, on September 30; of a shortage of locomotives on the Grosseto-Florence line, on September 29; on the views of the German naval authorities at Bastia on the pros and cons of using various channels for the evacuation of Corsica, on September 29; of naval craft being held in readiness at Leghorn for the evacuation of Corsica, on September 29; and that Italian military internees are to be transported to Germany to work in the armament industry, on September 26; on the Russian Front: a GAF report on Russian activity, for September 29; the GAF report there to be increased flak protection for the lower Dnieper crossings, on September 30; and the Admiral Commander in Chief (C-in-C) for the Black Sea reports to the Supreme Command of the Navy giving details of the men and material evacuated from Kuban to the Crimea between September 7 and 26; and a German secret service report from Rome reports very pessimistic information, on September 30.
