Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on South Europe: that the 29th Panzer Division is withdrawing, on September 27; of the 14th Corps withdrawing, on September 27; a report from the 76th Panzer Corps, for September 27, that the 1st Parachute Division is under pressure; of the German front line on the left wing, as of September 27; of the left wing of the Hermann Goering Division being withdrawn, from September 27; and of a tanker beached off Bastia again being torpedoed, on September 27; on the Southern Russian Front: that the Germans are to give up the Kiev bridgehead, on the night of September 27-28; and of German moves to restore the front between Kiev and Chernigov, on September 26; on Germany: that Goering seeks suitable distinguishing names for German aircraft, on September 27; that the German air defence network is unable to give clear details during large Allied raids, with measures to be taken to follow Allied aircraft, on September 21; and on new massing tactics for U-boat attacks on convoys, on September 25, with reference made to the use of 'zaunkoenigs', which are possibly acoustic torpedoes - see Naval Headlines 813 under 4484.
