Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on South Europe: that the 29th Panzer Grenadier Division is to withdraw to an intermediate defensive line on the night of September 26-27; on the new defensive line of the 29th Panzer Grenadier Division, as of September 25; the Germans report the landing of enemy parachutists in the Tarquinia-Viterbo area, on September 25; a 14th Panzer Corps report, for September 24, stating that the Germans expect to round up in the Naples area 30,000 Italian men who are fit for military service; that German Air Force (GAF) transports are to concentrate on the evacuation of Corsica, on September 25; of GAF fighter units being transferred for the protection of the Corsican evacuation, on September 25; and the German secret service reports to Himmler from Rome on arrangements for the support for Mussolini and the removal of Italian gold, on September 25; on South-east Europe: of a German landing on Amorgos Island (in the Cyklades), on September 23; on West Europe: a GAF description of the use of anti-shipping bombs with ricochet discs, on September 24; Naval Headlines, covering exaggerated claims of U-boat successes in the Atlantic; from the German Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ribbentrop, to all stations: detailing an interview with General Nedich, the puppet prime minister of Serbia, on September 22; from the Portuguese minister in Berlin, relating the views of his diplomatic colleagues on the war, on September 24; and from the Turkish minister in Budapest, forwarding Hungarian information on the stalled German-Soviet peace negotiations, on September 23.
