A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on South Europe: reports from the 26th Panzer Division, for September 22; reports from the 29th Panzer Division and 76th Panzer Corps, for September 22, noting continuous enemy reinforcements; the Hermann Goering Division reports enemy reinforcements to be landing at Salerno, on September 22; that the German 10th Army expects pressure on a broad front, on September 22; that the 29th Panzer Grenadier Division is to report the situation at Muro-Bella, on September 22; that the 1st Parachute Division requests German Air Force (GAF) reconnaissance, on September 22; that the Hermann Goering Division is to hold its positions, on September 22; that the German 76th Corps is to withdraw to successive lines of resistance, on September 23-25-27-30; that the GAF are unable to protect Corsica-Italy transports or prevent a landing on Corsica, on September 21; of the GAF in the Mediterranean's situation as at September 21; the Assault Brigade of the SS report on their progress on Corsica, on September 22; that a remnant of the Italian Navy (shore facilities) is ready to cooperate with the German Navy, from September 22; of the Germans taking counter-measures against 14-15,000 escaped British prisoners who are armed with Italian weapons, on September 20; the German security service in Rome report that the Italian Piave Division has been told to lay down its arms or be destroyed by a parachute division, on September 22; and that a German secret service liaison officer is moving north of Rome with Kesselring, on September 22; on South-east Europe: that Argostoli, on Cephalonia, is in German hands, as of September 22; that the Germans are to operate against Andros (in the Cyclades) on September 22; of east Adriatic harbours being open to German shipping, on September 22; that German E-boats support a land attack on partisans in Rovigno on September 22; and that the GAF in Roumania fears attack on oil fields from Allied bombers in Sicily and south Italy, on September 22; on the Southern Russian Front: that Army Group A and the 1st Air Corps are to withdraw from Crimea to Nikolaev, with the commandeering of navy premises, on September 22; on West Europe: that the German Navy destroyed a midget submarine inside the Tirpitz's net-barrage; Naval Headlines, covering the Germans destroying Naples' harbour; from the Japanese ambassador in Berlin, on the Italian armistice and the escape by the ambassador to Rome, on September 18; the Japanese ambassador to Rome apologises for his failure to detect Badoglio's treachery, on September 20; and from the Portuguese ambassador to the Vatican, describing Mussolini's resuscitation, on September 21.
