This file includes the following reports on Southern Europe: of the German defence line on Corsica, as of September 19; a situation report for Italy including that the German withdrawal is proceeding according to plan, on September 19; a ground situation report in the Salerno area, on September 19; of a German estimate of Allied casualties in the 16th Panzer Division's sector between September 9 and 17, from September 19; that the 14th Panzer Corps is to hold its present intermediate position on September 20; that the 16th Panzer Division, at present under the 76th Corps, is to be subordinated to the 14th Corps, on September 18; that the German Air Force (GAF) intend to evacuate Foggia on September 20; of preliminary measures in connection with an airfield demolition in the Foggia area, on September 18; on the creation of a new post of Chief of Staff (COS) of Flak South being requested on September 18 in view of the transfer back of Flak units from southern Italy; that blocking measures have commenced at Spezia, with 4000 dockers on strike, on September 18; and the German naval transport authority at Ancona reported that most of the escaped English prisoners have been recaptured, on September 20; on South-east Europe: of arrangements for a German landing on Corfu, on September 16; on the Russian Front: of indications of Russian progress towards Anapa, on September 18; and that rapid investigations are to be made about cable railways, on September 15.
