Description

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on Southern Europe: of German re-inforcements being brought up to Salerno; of German forces withdrawing according to plan in Calabria; of the German Air Force (GAF) operating against a formation of Italian warships; and of concentrated air attacks on an Allied landing fleet at Salerno, on September 9; a report of an air raid on Foggia, on September 9; and of a German R-boat being attacked by Italian E-boats off of Leghorn, on September 9.
