This file includes the following reports on Southern Europe: of orders for the evacuation and destruction of airfields in the Crotone area, on September 2; of Italian troops being withdrawn from Calabria, on September 2; on an instruction for the withdrawal of the 15th Grenadier Regiment from the Reggio area, on September 2; that reinforcement of fighting troops in South Italy prevents the release of supply troops for Northern Italy, on August 31; that small craft believed to be landing craft were sighted north east of Catania and heading north, on September 2; a German Air Force (GAF) in the Mediterranean situation report for September 2, including sighting reports of Allied shipping at sea and in harbour at Catania, Augusta and Syracuse; of Allied air raids on rail installations, and GAF activities; a German intelligence report noting a high state of readiness in all barracks in Southern Tyrol, inferring the possibility of an Allied landing with the support of the Italian military, on September 1; of the provinces of Bolzano, Trento, Verona and Mantua being declared War Zones, on September 1; the 2nd SS Panzer Corps' day report for September 1; of the sabotage of a cable in San Donino, on August 29; and on the low morale of the Italians but that the Italian HQ is continuing to show a lively interest in German strength and equipment; and on Southern Russia: a situation report from the Admiral Commanding in the Black Sea for August 29, stating that Taganrog has been evacuated, and that boats are to patrol off the coast to pick up the remnants of German troops.
