Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on Southern Europe: that the German Navy assess Southern Italy as the probable object of Allied attack rather than Sardinia-Corsica, on August 28; that the Italians are expecting a troop convoy bound for Sardinia to arrive at Bastia, on September 1; of the Italians moving ammunition and material from Calabria, on August 30; of German Air Force (GAF) orders for an attack on Allied naval forces off the south coast of Calabria or in Augusta harbour, on September 1; a day report from the 2nd SS Panzer Corps for August 30, giving the location of the 24th Panzer Division, and the serviceability state of Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler; strengths and serviceability returns for the 15th Panzer Grenadier Division and the Hermann Goering Division, for August 29; and on reports of facilities in certain Dalmatian harbours being required by the Italian Admiralty, on September 1; on the South Russian Front: the Admiral for the Black Sea reports a Soviet break-through on the Mius Front and the capture of Taganrog, on August 31; and from the Belgian Legation in London, describing a heated meeting between Churchill and Massigli in London, on August 20.
