This file includes the following reports: a BONIFACE summary from Brigadier Hollis for the Prime Minister (PM); and a SUNSET intelligence report; on South Europe: that the Italian 4th Army is to withdraw from France, with the Italian forces in Toulon to come under German command, from August 24; and that the German secret service is to target Italy, on August 19. This file also includes the following correspondence: a telegram from Washington to the Code and Cypher School (CSS); and a reply concerning the service of BJ diplomatic reports to the PM in Washington; from the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the minister in Washington, stating a concern that the Allies are not reaching an understanding with the new Italian regime, on August 20; and from the Japanese ambassador in Berlin, noting German unease concerning the Italian situation, on August 21.
