This file includes the following reports: a BONIFACE summary from Brigadier Hollis for the Prime Minister (PM); and a SUNSET intelligence report; on South Europe: that the Axis are to prepare to demolish airfields in Calabria, on August 19; a German Air Force (GAF) situation report, for August 17; and a German report to Berlin that Italian civilians are being evacuated from Taranto, on August 20; on South-east Europe: of the Germans consigning tanks and artillery to Bulgaria, on August 18; from the Japanese ambassador in Berlin, that the Germans have increased production of aircraft to counter Allied bombing, on August 17; from the Japanese ambassador in Vichy, on the German arrest of French officials and demands for workers to be sent to Germany, on August 15; from the Japanese ambassador in Rome, that Kesselring has been appointed Commander in Chief (C-in-C) for southern Italy and Rommel C-in-C for northern Italy, with plans for Rome to be an open city, on August 17; and from Berlin to Tokyo, on the need for the Japanese to leave as quickly as possible, on August 19.
