Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports: a BONIFACE summary from Brigadier Hollis for the Prime Minister (PM); and a SUNSET intelligence report; on South Europe: that German anti-aircraft artillery in south Italy are short of ammunition, on August 17; of difficulty in unloading anti-aircraft ammunition at Vibo, on August 17; of anti-aircraft units being transferred from Reggio, on August 17; and that the 3rd German E-boat Flotilla at Taranto is to break through to the Tyrrhenian Sea, on August 18. This file also includes the following correspondence: from the Japanese ambassador in Rome to the ambassador in Berlin, on German troops moving into Italy without consultation with the Italians, on August 15; and a message from Eisenhower, on August 17 (3 copies).
