This file includes the following reports: from Brigadier Hollis for the Prime Minister (PM); on South Europe: that German commanders in Genoa and Leghorn are to be alert for Allied landings, on August 16; that the 16th Panzer Division arrived in a new operational area, at Eboli, on August 16; a 14th Panzer Corps report on Sicily and the Messina Straits, on August 16; that a German Air Force (GAF) fighter unit was congratulated on the use of mortars against Liberators, on August 16; on German interest in the readiness of German and Italian ships to sail from Italian ports, from August 9-15; from the French chargé in Tokyo, noting Japanese despondency, on August 4; and from the Japanese ambassador in Vichy, on the French political situation, as of August 6.
