Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports: a BONIFACE summary from Brigadier Hollis for the Prime Minister (PM); and an extract from a SUNSET intelligence report; on South Europe: of an Allied raid on and bombardment of Vibo Valentia, on August 14; that all landing craft commanded by Taranto and Naples were ordered to Messina, on August 14; of a request for the 26th Panzer Division to be supplied with an anti-tank unit, on August 14; of the 14th Panzer Corps withdrawing as part of the evacuation of Sicily, on August 14; that the 14th Panzer Corps was considering the necessity of holding a defensive position to allow an evacuation, on August 13; of the defensive intentions of the 14th Panzer Corps, on August 13; that the Battle HQ of the 14th Panzer Corps is to transfer to the mainland on August 14; the 14th Panzer Corps' day report for August 12; that the Ground Officer Commanding (GOC) the 14th Panzer Corps finds the evacuation is proceeding favourably and orders his divisions and units to bring off both men and material, on August 13; that the 2nd Air Corps sets up an advanced battle HQ to coordinate operations, on August 13; that the Commander in Chief (C-in-C) South instructs the 14th Panzer Corps to bring back all its war material, on August 12; a 2nd Air Fleet situation report for August 13; from the German secret service in Rome on Italian views of Allied intentions, on August 13; and German intelligence in the Bolzano area report a strained situation with the local Italians, on August 14.
