A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following correspondence: from the Japanese representative to the Vatican, on the views of Cardinal Maglione on the Italian situation, as of August 6; from the Turkish ambassador in Rome, reporting a meeting of the Italian Foreign Minister with Ribbentrop on the Italian situation, on August 10; from the Japanese ambassador in Berlin, describing an interview with Hitler on the defection of Italy and the general war prospects, on August 4; from the Japanese ambassador in Rome, on the Italian Foreign Minister meeting with Ribbentrop, and that the new Italian government after the fall of Mussolini is to continue the war, on August 8; from the Turkish ambassador in Bucharest, that the Italians are under pressure from both Germany and the U.K., on August 11; and from the Portuguese minister in Rome, on the approaching Italian crisis, on August 12.
