Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports: a BONIFACE report from Brigadier Hollis to the Prime Minister (PM); a daily SUNSET intelligence report; on Southern Europe: of an extraordinary total of malaria infections in the Crotone area, on August 7; and that a reception and forwarding post is to be set up at Vibo Valentia for dealing with personnel and material returning from Sicily, on August 10; on South-east Europe: that the Germans are to set up a German Naval Command at Patras for the west coast of Greece, on August 11; an appreciation by the Chief of the Italian Secret Service that Germany must endeavour to keep Italy as an entity in the war, on August 10; from the Romanian consul-general in Milan, describing an Allied air-raid on Milan, on August 9; Von Ribbentrop in Berlin reviews the war situation, on August 8; and reports on his interview with Guariglia, on August 9; from the Japanese ambassador in Berlin, giving recommendations of the Japanese liaison mission on the war situation, on August 4; and from the Japanese ambassador in Rome, relaying the views of the head of the Stefani agency on the Italian situation, as of August 5.
