This file includes the following reports on Southern Europe: of the Leghorn harbour situation on August 1, detailing a lack of fuel and a shortage of lorry space, and the arrival of the hospital ship Aquileia; on the Sicily ground situation on August 1, noting the Allies are pressing from the south and south-west; and of an Allied air raid on Pratica, on July 30; on South-east Europe: that the German Air Force (GAF) are unable to occupy Gruda airfield for a lack of military support, on August 1; from the Greek ambassador in Ankara, describing a meeting between the Turkish and new Italian Foreign Ministers, on July 28; and from the German ambassador in Madrid, relating Spanish reactions to the change in the Italian government, on July 29.
