Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports: Naval Headlines, covering Allied destroyers being sighted in the Straits of Messina; and the destroyer Panthere being turned back to Naples; that German Naval authorities are hoping to send daily cargoes from Naples to Sicily by landing craft; a Berlin general directive to all stations on the Italian situation, on July 29; from the Portuguese minister in Rome, giving impressions of the new situation in Italy, on July 27; the Japanese Foreign Minister informs the ambassador in Berlin of an interview with the German ambassador on the subject of the Italian situation, on July 28; from the Japanese ambassador in Istanbul, relaying the views of a competent German Embassy official on the situation in the Balkans, as at July 29; and from the Romanian minister in Rome, detailing the background leading up to Mussolini's resignation, on July 26.
