Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on Southern Europe: of confirmation of the effectiveness of Flak units in the defence of Catania, on July 29; that the Italian Admiralty instructs the Naval authorities in Naples, Taranto, Messina and Maddelena to keep strict guard on Motoscafo armato silurante (MAS) and other small craft to prevent desertions of some Petty Officers and ratings to Allied-occupied Sicily, on July 31; that a German heavy fighter unit is to move from the Naples area to Lorient for operations in the Bay of Biscay, on July 30; of a ban on southbound naval reinforcements beyond the Brenner, on July 31; and that Croat bomber crews are likely to be unwilling to return to operate in the Soviet Union with obsolescent aircraft, on July 30.
